Harmony Day

Harmony Day

Who here loves Harmony Day?
And who here loves the sound of harmony Day but doesn’t actually know what it is?
Well ladies, keep on reading as I unravel this beautiful day and why YOU should celebrate it too!
Harmony Day is celebrated each and every year in Australia on the 21 st of March. The first Harmony day was held in 1999 so I guess you could say that it’s still a relatively new Nationwide celebration. Harmony day celebrates cultural diversity. It’s a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
Did you know that nearly half (49 per cent) of Aussies were actually born overseas or have at least one parent who was? I know right…. My mind was blown too the first time I heard that haha.
And did you know that 70 Indigenous languages are spoken in Australia? Apart from English, the most common languages spoken in Australia are Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Taglog/Filipino, Hindi, Spanish and Punjabi. Crazy, right?!
85 per cent of Australians agree that multiculturalism has been good for Australia. I believe Australia is truly one of the most successful multicultural countries here on earth! It’s based on the successful integration and inclusiveness of migrants into our community regardless of cultural or linguistic background – obviously united by a set of core Australian views.
So how can you celebrate?
Well as it’s a day that’s celebrated nation-wide, most of the local communities of Australia love to get involved with the Harmony Day events! These community events are usually free, family friendly and everyone is invited and welcomed to join in on all the fun.
Harmony day events are great opportunities to:
- Showcase diverse cultures within the local area.
- Build community connections.
- Engage in various activities.
- Share cultures.
- Eat AWESOME food!
Okay Harmony Day……you totally had me at “eat AWESOME food” haha – love it!
I think it’s a great thing to celebrate all human-beings of every race, every culture and every ethnic background. I mean, at the end of the day, we’re all in this together right?
We all have the exact same bone structure, exact same internal organs including our lungs and our hearts etc…
So if you think about it…. We do have quite a lot in common!
And if you’re a lot like me (Cici), and you believe that there is a creator, I feel like this is a great day to reflect on how great and creative our God actually is.
He gave us one job…To love Him and love His people! And when we do this synergistically, I just know that the world will live together in perfect harmony despite who we are as individuals, where we’ve come from, and what we look like. I mean, I know I’m a pretty optimistic person haha, but hey, someone’s gotta be!!!! I believe living in peace and fellowship with those around us is a
very true and real thing and shouldn’t be laughed at or found offensive. I can’t wait to see the day when people celebrate others in unity – when people stop looking at themseleves and start looking to help others in need. Not only does this mindset bless others, but it blesses YOU with eternal treasures and an amazing feeling and sense of fulfilment. Kindness breaks down barriers and love can stop a war – if only more people would believe.

I believe there will be opportunities in every single one of our lives each and every
day to practice being an example of what the world needs – which is Peace, Love
and Kindness.
So I just want to encourage you girls to be BOLD!

Be bold to show love to a stranger, be fearless enough to look up and smile at
oncoming foot traffic and be kind enough to hold a door open for a…. Oh, I dunno, maybe a little old man at the supermarket haha – that’s the best example I could come up with haha!
There are truly so many opportunities in life to BE what we say the world needs! And the plus side is that by treating others kindly and going out of your way to make someone else's life a little bit easier, YOU are the one that reaps the benefits – it is YOU that walks away feeling WORTHY, WARM and REFRESHED.
So my Power Her Sisters, go out and be BOLD and be the change the world needs in order to achieve perfect Harmony!
Oh, and don’t forget to go and celebrate Harmony Day hehe.
